A Japanese ivory figure of a farmer, 19th century
carved standing with his head turned to the left, wearing a cap and flowing robes and pantaloons with leaf design, with a bundle suspended from a sash tied around the waist, his left hand holding onto straps supporting the woven basket carried on the bent back and filled with fruit, mushrooms, grapes and twigs, with a knobbed wooden staff held in his right hand, incised marks, wood stand -- 7 5/8in. (19.4cm.) high.
