signed 'Holl.' (lower right) and further signed and inscribed 'This picture is suggested by the fact that during/the Commonwealth the keeping of Christmas was/forbidden. The children have been caught picking holly, by a sour old Roundhead/who is reproaching them for indulging in such/an idolatrous practice./Holl' (on the reverse)
