Lot Essay

'Abd al-Wahhab was the sixth and youngest son of the well-known calligrapher Muhammad Shafi' Vesal Shirazi. He wrote poems under the pseudonym Yazdani and followed Mir 'Imad's style in nasta'liq. He also wrote in other styles and was much praised for his work. His recorded works include a copy of the divan of Anvari in the Majlis Library in Tehran and a few calligraphic pages. He is also recorded as a scholar in literature, sciences, fine arts, painting and music (Mehdi Bayani, Ahval va Asar-e Khosh-Nevisan, Vol. II, Tehran, 1346 sh, pp.419-20 and M. Bamdad, Dictionary of National Biography of Iran 1700-1900, Vol. 6, Tehran, 1966, pp. 151-2).
