The games board opening out to reveal ebony and sycamore veneered boards on both sides, with hinged external and internal compartments, fitted with ornamentally-turned 'Holtzapffel' draughts counters, and a chess set with kings on puzzle-ball style stems above spiral turned columnar bases, the knights as horses' heads with inset glass eyes
The king -- 4 1/8in. (10.5cm.) high; the pawn -- 2in. (5cm.) high; the board -- 18¾in. (47.7cm.) wide
