The kings carved as princes mounted in howdahs, the queens in supporting princes in open top howdahs, the bishops riding camels, the knights on horseback, the rooks as turrets surmounted by soldiers, the pawns modelled as sepoys versus turbanned soldiers, some associated pieces and red pawn lacking
