lithograph in colors, 1892, on two joined sheets of wove paper, Wittrock's only state, printed by Ancourt, with the Republique Française inkstamp, the full sheet (printed to one side), the sheet slightly toned, vertical and horizontal folds and splits, losses and touched-in restorations along the sheet edges and fold lines, surface soiling (mainly in the margins), otherwise in good condition, laid down to linen then to masonite, framed

Lot Essay

Commissioned by the upscale Ambassadeurs theater off the Champs-Elysées. The first of five posters in this sale of the celebrated performer, Aristide Bruant, commissioned for his various shows at different theaters. These posters were placed all over the city and made Bruant famous.
