The following 29 lots are from the Estate of Stan Laurel. Born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in England in 1890, as a young boy, Laurel toured with Fred Carno's troupe, along with contemporary comic actor, Charlie Chaplin. Laurel went on to join the Hal Roach studio, and began directing films when he met Oliver Hardy, a member of the Hal Roach Studios Comedy All Star players. Laurel and Hardy began sharing screen time together in Slipping Wives, Duck Soup and With Love and Hisses. It soon became obvious that the two men had a certain comic onscreen chemistry and Roach Studios' supervising director Leo McCarey, noticing the audience reaction to the two, began intentionally teaming them together, leading to the creation of the Laurel and Hardy series late that year, leading to a string of successful motion pictures with Hal Roach studios and later with 20th Century Fox. Laurel and Hardy remain one of the most famous and influential comedy duos of all time.
