Lot Essay

The wheeled sedan chair or Bath chair pushed by an attendant was manufactured by the New Cavendish Street firm of John Carter, who advertised one such chair in 1883 in The Graphic. (J. Gloag, The Englishman's Chair, London, 1964 p.244).
