[BRITISH ROYALTY]. Large group photo signed and inscribed by VICTORIA, Queen of England (inscribed "The 4 Generations 1899 Victoria R"), EDWARD VII, King of England ("Albert Edward"), GEORGE V, King of England ("George," with flourish) and EDWARD VIII, King of England, as a boy ("Edward," possibly in the hand of his father, George V), by Chancellor of Dublin (imprint on mount), 1899.
14 x 18¼ in., including mount, small royal crest at bottom center, slight foxing to mount. Signed in ink in lower portion of mount.
FOUR GENERATIONS OF BRITISH REGENTS pose together in this very clear, crisp, large-format portrait. The elderly Victoria (1819-1901), wearing a black dress and feathered hat, sits before the marble steps of an imposing building; behind her stand her sons, George V (1865-1936) and Edward VII (1841-1910, here as Prince of Wales), with the 5-year old Edward VIII (1894-1972, later Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor), wearing a sailor suit.
The four royals shown here collectively ruled Great Britain and its empire for 99 years, from 1837 to 1936. A VERY RARE CONJUNCTION OF ROYAL SIGNATURES. Provenance: Sophie Dupré, London.
