Lot Essay

There is a blueprint of the original design by the Chandigarh office responsible for the 'Low Cost Furniture Program' directed by Pierre Jeanneret, which refers to this model as 'committee table'.

Only a few examples of this table are known to have been executed. The model was created for the Assembly in Chandigarh, designed by Le Corbusier, who personally supervised the interior design and decoration. The V-shapes configuring the base of this table are a motif that can be found on several other buildings in Chandigarh by Jeanneret, for example the portico of the MLA Hostel (see lot 249) and the front wall of the primary school.
