NOTE:
"Qi Baishi was proficient in painting flowers, birds, insects and fishes, especially shrimps and crabs in ink. The images painted by Qi Baishi, however, were not only a copy of natural objects; they were living creatures with vivid characteristics which were captured by the talented Qi Baishi. The artist grew up in the countryside, where he played with these 'little things' since he was a little boy. Later when he moved to Beijing, he even raised shrimps and crabs at home adn watched them carefully to become familiar with their shapes and movements. That was the reason why images made with Qi Baishi's brushstroke were so vivid!" - Quoted from Baiwei (ed.), Yitan Qipa Qi Baishi (The Legend of Qi Baishi), Lanzhou University Press, 1996, p.19. (5)
