NOTE:
This rare painting is one of Huang Yongyu's most important works and is in the style of his pictures painted with heavy colours.
Compare with his contemporaries, Huang was unique: he is a well-known artist who excels in calligraphy, Chinese painting, oil painting, woodcuts, caricature, sculpture, prose, fiction, poetry and essays. His creative intelligence is admirable. Shao Dazhen, professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, states that the lines Huang used for depicting lotus are thick and strong, which makes them appear full of power. He used lines derived from woodcuts to form the stems and leaves of the lotus. In addition to the traditional brush, he is also able to use different types of tools, such as various kinds of brushes and melon pulp. The colours of the painting are luxuriant, brilliant
