ELIOT, George [pseudonym of Marian Evans (1819-80)]. Autograph letter signed ('Marian E. Lewes'), to [Robert] Browning, The Priory, North Bank, Regents Park, 'Thursday' [March 1864], 3 pages, 8vo
Eliot insists, 'Entertain no regret about that momentary forgetfulness,' as she will enjoy her visit to him all the more when she has returned from a visit to Scotland. 'I look forward to it as quite a special privilege, to be linked with long-remembered & hallowed impressions.' She also hopes that he will bring to their fireside his 'welcome bodily presence', by which time she should be 'a less headachy wretch' than she is at present.
Eliot and George Henry Lewes returned from their brief holiday in Scotland on April 4, 1864. Browning was a fairly regular visitor to their house from December 1862 onwards.
