GÖRRES, Joseph von (1776-1848). Autograph letter signed ('J. Görres') to an unidentified recipient, Koblenz, 20 February 1817, referring to an enclosed manuscript (not present) of Lieder, a second package enclosing 'Scherzhaften', ballads, romances, historical and other forms to follow in a few days; the proofs are to be sent for revision to a friend who is studying in Heidelberg; Görres will begin work on a political tract as soon as he has despatched present business, one page, 4to (slight browning).

After the suppression of his influential paper, Die rheinische Merkur in 1816, together with his dismissal from his teaching position, Görres was dependent upon his writing for his support.
