Lot Essay

The earliest newspaper includes a report on the match between Hambledon and All England at Bourn Paddock, organised by Lord Winchelsea in August, 1787; the two others give scorecards for the All England v. Hambledon matches played at Lord's on 26 June and 2 July, 1789; while the September 1743 issue of The Gentleman's Magazine mentions cricket on pp. 485-486.
