Inlaid overall with foliate scrolls, the circular dial with glazed enamel Roman numerals and engraved Arabic numerals, centred by a mask of Apollo within a domed frame mounted with a centaur abducting a nymph to the front and female masks to the corners, on scroll feet, the console conformingly decorated with pinecone boss, the twin barrels movement with later anchor escapement and count wheel strike on bell signed 'Jerôme Martinot A Paris' to backplate

Lot Essay

Jerôme ou Hiérosme Martinot (1671-1725), Valet de Chambre, Horloger du Roi (1689-1725) and Horloger du Palais, was a member of the prolific Martinot dynasty of Horlogers.
A very closely related cartel and console signed by Balthazar Martinot was sold, Christie's Paris, 24 June 2003, lot 465 (EUR21,150).
