FIRST EDITION OF VOL. II, second edition of Vol. I. Charles Bell, the younger brother of John Bell, had his first independent venture as an author published while he was still a student. Charles Bell was also trained as an artist, and drew all the illustrations for this work which were printed from plates made by various engravers. The first editions of parts 1 through 5 of Vol. I were issued between 1798 and 1799, and the first edition of the "Appendix" in 1800; the second editions of these parts followed the first by a year, and are often found bound with the first editions of Vol. II, parts 1 and 2. Garrison-Morton 402; Gordon-Taylor 2; Norman 166; Russell, British Anatomy 46, 47.
