Collaborator with Jean Charcot, and an accomplished draftsman, engraver, and sculptor, Richer (1849-1933) was head of the clinical laboratory for diseases of the nervous system at the Salpêtrière, as well as artist at the Salpêtrière, and professor of anatomy at the National School of Fine Arts. He was the author of works on the history of art and medicine and on anatomy for artists. In an English translation Richer's treatise on Artistic Anatomy remains in print today.
