Lot Essay

Lobed basins of this form from the Wanli period are known, although those decorated in this pattern appear to be quite rare. An example of a five-lobed basin, painted in underglaze blue with five-clawed dragons confronted around a pearl, was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 28 April 2003, lot 651.
