Lot Essay

A pupil of the South Kensington School of Art, Charles Jones Way settled in Montreal, Canada, and was elected President of the Society of Canadian Artists in 1870. In 1890 he left Canada for Switzerland, where he was made an honorary member of the Society of Painters and Sculptors in Switzerland, and lived in Lausanne until his death in 1919.
