The decoration on this sprinkler is very unusual and difficult to parallel in Mamluk enamelled glass. It is however the precursor of a design that was hugely popular in later centuries, particularly in porcelains and glass made for the Islamic market in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. For two enamelled Mamluk similar glass sprinklers sold in these Rooms please see 28 April 1992, lot 187 and 18 October 1994, lot 242.
