Lot Essay

Francesco Gajarini (or Gaiarini) studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Florence under Ulisse Cambi and Lorenzo Bartolini. In 1864 he collaborated with Giovanni Bastianini on his portrait of Savonarola and in the same year entered the studio of Alessandro Tomba, where he remained after the death of the latter to complete his unfinished commissions.
