GREEK, ATTRIBUTED TO ELIAS MOSKOS, 17TH CENTURY
The elderly figure of Simeon the High-Priest on a pedestal, holding the Christ Child in his arms, leaning forward to present Him to his Mother, the latter extending her veiled hands in response, to the left St. Joseph carrying the two turtle doves in a cage, next to him the Prophetess Anna holding an open scroll and pointing to the event, the space behind dominated by the ciborium, its dome and shafts emulating marble revetments, with a cinnabar curtain and a pair of doors, against an architectural setting and gold background, the applied frame carved as an ogee arch with rosettes on the spandrels
