Lot Essay

This picture is a bozzetto for the painting by Giacomo Favretto depicting L'estrazione del lotto. Il banco del lotto in a private collection, Rome (see R. Trevisan, Giacomo Favretto 1849-1887, Venice, 1999, p. 123). The lottery was a particularly popular pastime in the 18th century and the theme allowed Favretto to paint a typical Venetian scene of the time.
