One of George Lepape's earliest important commissions was in 1911 when he was chosen as an illustrator for Paul Poiret's new clothing designs. George Lepape was known in Paris for his work in publications that included La Gazette du Bon Ton, the foremost monthly fashion publication in Paris (1912-1925), Harper's Bazaar and Femina. Lepape designed his first Vogue cover in 1916 and completed 116 covers before World War II.
