One bottle of George Washington Distillery Straight Rye Whiskey
This straight rye whiskey made from George Washington's recipe for the first time in over 200 years, was produced at the George Washington Distillery on October 28, 2003 by a team of master distillers from some of America's most famous brands. Then it was aged over 2 years on the grounds of Mount Vernon in specially made oak casks and hand-bottled on September 27, 2006. At a charity auction that night, publisher Marvin Shanken purchased bottle #1 for $100,000, setting the world record price for a bottle of American Whiskey. The bottle was subsequently donated to the distillery's museum. This bottle is #8 of a limited edition of 24 and proceeds from the sale will go to support The George Washington Orientation and Education Center at Historic Mount Vernon.
