In order to establish the identity and style of Pierce Brosnan, Costume Designer, Lindy Hemming, cleverly looked to Sean Connery's Bond of the 1960s for inspiration. Indeed, the Prince Of Wales check used for the suit in this lot is reminiscent of a number of suits made by Anthony Sinclair for Sean Connery as 007.
Pierce Brosnan wears an identical suit to the one in this lot when Tanner [Michael Kitchin] briefs Bond regarding the Severnaya crisis. According to the vendor, this suit is one of only two made for Pierce Brosnan for this important scene. It is during this scene that a new phase is established in the Bond-M relationship. Bond admits to M that he regards her as a 'bean-counter' and M reponds by calling him a sexist, misogynist dinosaur - a relic of the Cold War.... Allusions are made to the past when Bond suggests ...your predecessor kept some cognac... but M cuts him short I prefer Bourbon. Simultaneously establishing her authority and her no-nonsense approach to her role in this scene M informs Bond ...I've no compunction about sending you to your death.
