Lot Essay

The present drawing is comparable to one in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London where the figure is seen in profile, wearing the same flat hat (D.1824.33-1885; G. Knox, Catalogue of the Tiepolo drawings in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1960, no. 295). The V&A drawing comes from the volume Sole figure vestite containing similar sheets that cannot be associated with any specific painting, and are likely to date from the late 1750s.
