The circular green leather-lined top above four drawers with bone roundels engraved with the letters B, R, M & L, and four simulated drawers, the drawers crossbanded in casuarina oak or 'partridgewood', on a turned shaft with downswept reeded legs with brass caps and castors, one drawer with black plastic Norman Adams label, the handles replaced, the underside inscribed in chalk '3312'

Lot Essay

A George III rosewood library drum table with solid pedestal base but with similar inlaid lettering on the drawers and with floral marquetry roundels, was supplied by Thomas Chippendale to Sir Penistone Lamb, 1st Viscount Melbourne (1748-1819), either for the Library of Brocket Hall or Melbourne House. It was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 9 July 1998, lot 80 (£320,500).
