Lot Essay

Launched at Reeds Yard in Glasgow in August 1866, the Antiope's owners were Messrs. J. Harp & Sons. In 1868 under the command of Captain Withers, she completed the Liverpool to Melbourne run in 68 days. Under a new owner, Gracie Beazley & Co., Antiope's voyages became more varied making calls to ports on the west coast of America and taking on grain bound for Europe. She continued in service, mainly in the Pacific, until she was 55 years old.
