Lot Essay

The present work is a depiction of Waynesborough, the eighteenth century birthplace and home of American Revolutionary War commander General Anthony Wayne. Located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, the Waynesborough estate was continuously owned by seven generations of the Wayne family from 1724 to 1965. Today the house has been restored and serves as a historic house museum.
