Lot Essay

Despite the almost lack of new materials for clothing in Germany during the war, fashion magazines promoted a specifically German style. A government sponsored fashion institute worked to promote design that would support the official idea of the German Woman. Illustrations such as these support the existence of more than just dirndl-sporting frauleins.
