Lot Essay

A prominent and respected criminal lawyer in Berlin during the Weimar Republic, Dr. Max Alsberg (1877-1933) was also renowned as a legal reformer and writer.

We are grateful to Professor Peter Humfrey, who has also suggested a possible attribution to Francesco Bissolo (Treviso c. 1470/5-1554 Venice) on the basis of photographs.
