Lot Essay

The manufacturing firm of J.D. Heymann were fashionable maker's at the turn of the 20th Century in Hamburg. Notably they produced the furniture designed by Peter Behrens, whose designs for the Villa Behrens were shown at an exhibition entitled 'A Document to German Art', sponsored by the Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse, in 1901.
