A ROMAN BRONZE OINOCHOE
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.
The globular body on a flat pad base, with lathe-turned rings around the foot, on the underside of the base and around the shoulders, the high-arching ribbed handle terminating below in a lion's paw on an oval handle-plate decorated with tendrils and berries, the edges beaded, the upper end with a well-modelled frontal-facing lion's head, a stylized ox skull in its mouth, the ends expanding to rotellae, the lion's eyes and the rotellae with silver overlay
