HARTOG FOUNDATION (LOTS 114-131) In the nineteen-thirties Harold Hartog began his business career. He was a descendant of a founder of Unilever, one of the world's largest industrial and commercial conglomerates. Mr. Hartog served as Chairman of Unilever's International Board of Directors and played an important role in building its German subsidiaries. Harold Hartog was an avid supporter of Israel. He was the benefactor behind the founding of the Harold Hartog School of Government and Policy, which is situated in the Gershon H. Gordon Faculty of Social Sciences at Tel Aviv University, Israel's largest university. He supported the Freedom from Hunger Campaign, as well as the building that houses the institute for Cereal Crops Improvement. In 2005 Mr. Hartog established the charitable foundation Harold A. Hartog und Ingeborg L. Hartog-Stifftung. He will be remembered for his social commitment and his generosity. The focus of the foundation lies in the aid of elderly people, youth welfare service, development aid, international understanding and official recognized/acknowledged associations of welfare work. Over decades Mr. Hartog was a great supporter of the Museum fr Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg and the circle of friends of the museum, the Justus Brinckmann Gesellschaft. As an honorary member of this association/society, he shaped in a particular way the department for far eastern art and donated his eminent collection of Chinese porcelain. Furthermore he influenced the daily work of the museum and the rebuilding of parts of the museum. The Hartog-Flgel and the Hartog-Galerie at the Museum fr Kunst und Gewerbe was named after him. During his lifetime Mr. Hartog received many English and Dutch decorations.
