Lot Essay

A drawing of Coriolanus receiving the entreaties of his wife and mother is at Stourhead (K. Eustace, Michael Rysbrack Sculptor, 1694-1770, exhib. cat., Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, 1982, no. 96). This was acquired for 7 guineas at the artist's posthumous sale of 14 February 1767 by Henry Hoare, creator of Stourhead and his loyal patron.
