Lot Essay

Michelham Priory at Upper Dicker in Sussex is a moated Augustinian priory, part-medieval and part-Elizabethan. Reflections in water was a favourite motif for V. Bell. This unusually accurate painting may have been a commission.

We are very grateful to Richard Shone for his assistance in cataloguing lots 102-111 and his catalogue entries for lots 102, 105-107 and 110-111.
