Lot Essay

In his unpublished notes C. Vosmaer wrote about the present lot as follows: 'Zeer mooi, romp goed getekend en met smaak, goud en rozig van kleur, met goud blond haar, komt rijk (...) sappig groen uit; dat rechts geheel behandeld is als in Rembr: Susanne. Het geheel is op deze geinspireerd: sappig, rijk van toon: mooi'. Vosmaer also made a pencil drawing similar to the present composition (see: C. Vosmaer, Onze Hedendaagse Schilders, 1881).
