A hanging scroll, 17th century
painted in ink and colours on silk, after the Song Dynasty artist Xu Xi, depicting a multitude of peonies, prunus and daisies issuing from entwined branches -- 77½in. x 23½in. (196.8cm. x 59.7cm.), with signature in gilt and six seals, with additional colophon and numerous collectors seals purporting to be of the Emperor Qianlong (1736-95), added to the mount in the 19th century, eight seals reading 'Qianlong jian shang', 'San xi tang jing jian xi', 'Yi zi sun', 'Shi qu ding jian', 'Bao ji zhong bian', 'Wu fu wu dai tang gu xi tian zi bao', 'Ba zheng mao nian zhi bao' and 'Tai shang huang di zhi bao'.
