Born in the Western Transvaal, South Africa, Willem de Beer studied at the University of Pretoria before devoting himself entirely to painting. In 1985, in order to find a wider audience for his work, he moved to England. His work is represented in the collections of H.R.H. has held many one-man exhibitions, including one in New York at the Sportsman's Edge Gallery. He is a member of the prestigious Society of Animal Artists.
