On an integral rectangular bronze plinth and later rectangular panelled ebony pedestal; dark reddish brown patina, minor scratches to lacquer

An example of the present composition from the collection of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth was included in the Giambologna exhibition in 1978-79 (loc. cit.). Although suggested as a possible prototype for the rearing horses of Pietro Tacca, this theory has not found widespread acceptance. The present bronze is, however, clearly from a similar artistic milieu.

Lot Essay

Un exemple de la présente composition provenant de la collection de Sa Majesté la Reine Elizabeth II, a fait partie de l'exposition sur Giambologna de 1978-1979 (loc. cit.). Bien qu'il ait été avancé qu'il pût s'agir d'un prototype des chevaux cabrés exécuté par Pietro Tacca, cette théorie ne fait pas l'unanimité. Le présent bronze provient cependant bien d'un milieu artistique comparable.
