Portant la peau du lion de Nemée sur sa tête, les pattes nouées autour du cou, de profil tournée vers la droite; dans une monture ovale en or appliquée sur un fond circulaire en jaspe rouge ; enchâssé dans un cadre en vermeil orné de coquillages, de fleurs et de feuilles d'acanthe

Wearing the skin of the Nemean lion on her head, paws knotted at the neck, facing in profile to the right; in an oval gold mount applied to a circular red jasper ground within silver-gilt frame of shells, flowers and acanthus

According to Lucia Pirzio Biroli (La Collezione Paoletti, Rome, 2007, p.73, I, no. 639), heads of this type were intended to represent Iole, wife of Hercules, who adopted his attributes to demonstrate the power of love over strength.

Selon Lucia Pirzio Biroli, (La collezione Paoletti, Rome, 2007, p.73, I, no. 639), ces exemples étaient censés incarner Iole, la femme d'Hercule, celle-ci ayant adopté les attributs de son mari afin de prouver la suprématie de l'amour sur la force.
