Lot Essay

Liesbeth Bik (1959) and Jos van der Pol (1961) have been working collaboratively under the name Bik Van der Pol since 1995. They live and work in Rotterdam. Bik Van der Pol explore the potential of art as a source of knowledge. Their work embraces gestures that highlight, publicize and ameliorate situations. Recent solo projects include One Day Sculpture, Auckland, New Zealand (2009); I've Got Something in my Eye, Marie Louise Hessel Museum/CCS Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, (2008); Pay Attention, Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven (2008); and Life, Once More, Forms of Reenactment in Contemporary Art, Witte de With, Rotterdam, (2006). Their works are collected in both private and public collections of the Bard Hessel Museum, New York, the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art, Budapest and the Museum De Paviljoens, Almere. Part of their practice includes publishing books, such as Catching Some Air (2002), With Love From The Kitchen (2005), the ongoing series Past Imperfect (2005, 2007), Fly Me To The Moon (2006) and The Lost Moment (2007).
