Lot Essay
The celebrated Stockholm Spegelfabrikör or mirror manufacturer Jonas Frisk (1787-1849), was active between 1805 and 1824, first based on Stortorget in Gamla Stan (1806-1810), then on Storkyrkobrinken (1810-1814) and finally on Riddarhustorget (1814-1824). His 'antique' mirrors were embellished with a characteristic decoration of bronzed and gilt motifs of maidens, griffins and trophies within contrasting foliate borders. His mirrors often bear his trade label to the reverse. A closely related mirror by Frisk is illustrated in T. Sylven and E. Welander-Berggren, Speglar, Stockholm, 2000, p. 129.
