Of serpentine outline, the railed basket flanked by foliate engraved panels, above a fluted pierced fret within tapering standards applied with paterae bosses and surmounted by urn-shaped finials

Lot Essay

This model follows a similar design as a period steel dog-grate acquired in 1911 by the Victoria & Albert Museum (museum no. M492) (see A.Kelly. The Book of English Fireplaces, 1968, fig.75) attributed to the Smithfield metalworker Henry Jackson.
