A RARE FRENCH REGULATION SABRE (PALLACHE) OF THE RÉGIMENT ROYAL CARABINIERS
CIRCA 1754/5 - 1758
With straight blade, double-edged very slightly curved point, both broad and narrow fullers cut parallel over the middle length, the forte etched 'Vivat Regum Carissimus' on both sides, the royal Sun-in-Splendour emblem above, the Arms of a Bourbon Prince of the Royal Blood beneath, and the back signed by the bladesmith '_ _ Marchand Fourbisseur à _ _ _', with brass half-basket hilt cast in relief with Princely arms en suite with the blade, thumb-ring, scalloped pommel, and original wooden grip

Lot Essay

The arms and crown are those of a Bourbon legitimate Prince of The Blood Royal, given by two authorities (op. cit.) as 'Le Prince de Dombes'. The present blade type together with the design of the hilt were each altered slightly in 1758 and the regiment re-named.
