FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with E8 recto blank. Byron's 392-line narrative poem chronicles the imprisonment of a Genevois monk, François Bonivard, from 1532 to 1536. Byron was inspired to write the poem while sailing on Lake Geneva with Shelley in June 1816. Wise Byron I, p. 113.
