Meiji-Taisho period (early 20th century), signed Toshiyuki [Morikawa Toshiyuki] with inlaid gold seal
The rectangular wooden box on four bracket feet mounted on the cover with a rounded-rectangular silver plaque cast in relief with a circular window supporting an ivy vine opening into an interior view of a scholar reading at a table by the light of a sack of fireflies suspended from the ceiling, the ivy, cloth cap, brush and table edges gilt, the tea pot of copper and the inkstone and edges of the scholar's robe of shakudo, the ground of shibuichi; the box black lacquer on the outer edges with nashiji interior and base
