Lot Essay

Bronze shabtis are exceptionally rare in the New Kingdom. Contrary to the more typical shabtis for use in a burial context, bronze examples served as votive offerings, presumably to Osiris, and were placed in temples. For a shabti in bronze and of similar size, also dated to Dynasty XVIII, cf. shabti for Iuny in The British Museum, BM no. 32692.
